The Gordon Research Seminar and Conference of Quantitative Genetics and Genomics brought together scientists to Ventura, California, US, from a range of the genetics field. The majority of presenters focused on crop growth optimisation or breeding improvements. Although part of the minority of people working on human genetics, my colleague Simon Wengert and I were selected to present our work at the Gordon Research Seminar that happened prior to the conference. Here, we present our work to interested conference attendees, with mostly our peer trainees in the audience. Additionally, my supervisor Dr. Na Cai was selected to give a keynote lecture on Major Depressive Disorder genetics during the GRS as well. The slides of my talk I present below:

During the Conference, Simon and I were also asked to present our work in a poster. Here, more senior attendees were also able to hear our work and give us feedback. I specifically remember Bruce Walsh’s interest in my work and his career advice. Again, my poster is shown below:

The small conference of no more than 200 attendees was centred around networking and collaboration. Each dinner was had in a common room and we all stayed in the same hotel that the conference was held in.

I fondly remember meeting a number of trainees and having wonderful discussions with group leaders because of this as well.

The true cherry on top was that my colleague Lianyun Huang was selected as co-chair for the 2025 GRS that will be happening in Florence.
