I’m Jolien Rietkerk

Nice to meet you!
As a postdoctoral researcher I work on trans-ancestry psychiatric genetics of Major Depressive Disorder. I am part of the POP-GEM lab of Dr. Roseann Peterson at the Institute for Genomics in Health (IGC) at SUNY Downstate. I am located and collaborate with Dr. Hanna van Loo and her lab at the University Center of Psychiatry at the University Medical Center Groningen.

In my research I use population-level datasets of individuals with psychiatric disorders. I implement, develop and combine novel statistical genetics tools in my quest to understanding the biology and population dynamics of these disorders. To date, my most proud achievement in research is my PhD work (under supervision of Dr. Na Cai at Helmholtz Pioneer Campus in Munich), which I have collected into a thesis called “Complex Polygenic Pathway Interactions of Psychiatric Disorders and Comorbidities”. Ultimately, I aim to improve psychiatric diagnostics and personalise medicine.

I am thrilled you found my corner of the internet!
On this site you will find an overview of my academic journey and resulting publications, talks and posters. I also share my conferences and retreat experiences and discuss my publications here.

Thank you for visiting!
