Monday November 10th marks the date that I successfully defended my dissertation and obtained my doctorate degree in experimental medicine at the TUM school of medicine and health, with a magna cum laude distinction!
This was the result of over 4 years of hard work and persistance, managing to work through quite a few setbacks ranging from a global pandemic, institutional hiccups and methodological struggles, I was able to submit my dissertation titled ‘Polygenic Pathway Interactions in Psychiatric Disorders and Comorbidities’ to the Technical University of Munich school of Medicine and Health back in April.
I am immensely proud to have been able to finish this and see it through to completion. On top of that, obtaining the distinction is such an unexpected honour, and I am immensely grateful.
Naturally, the work was not just mine, but the result of great supervision by Na Cai, as well as collaborators Andy Dahl, Andrew Schork, Jonathan Flint, Ken Kendler as well as many many others including colleagues (Lianyun Huang Simon Wengert Simon Chang Xenophon Giannoulis, PhD Ayshan Aliyeva Yazheng Di), fellow PhD’s at DINI, family and friends, I’ll always be grateful for your support and enthusiasm! Also thanks to Helmholtz Munich Helmholtz PioneerCampus @ Helmholtz Munich and Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry for hosting and supporting my work in Munich, none of this fascinating research would’ve been possible without your support.
Thank you all so much for making the journey a special, enjoyable enriching experience.
For future steps I’ve already been working hard as a postdoctoral researcher with Roseann Peterson and Hanna van Loo and I can’t wait to share more of our work soon!
